Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

Summary: Andi is not a typical teenager.  A gifted musician and severely depressed, she copes with a tragic loss through pills and the escape her music provides her.  Forced to accompany her father to France for his work, Andi discovers the diary of a French teenager who lived a dangerous life during the French Revolution.  As Andi becomes more and more consumed by the diary, she soon discovers that she's part of the story too, and the consequences could be deadly...

Recommended for: anyone who enjoys riveting historical fiction.  I would also suggest it to those who typically prefer nonfiction historical accounts, as the descriptions were so detailed and factual that I learned a great deal.  I also appreciated the well-researched discussions of the technical aspects of musical composition, as it was a topic I'm not very familiar with.  While I felt that the story dragged at times and had the potential to be bogged down by the extremely detailed descriptions and alternating points of view, the frequent action and suspense were enough to keep me stuck on the book.
